96: Pakaraka

Let’s finish 2018 and year 8 with a modest joke.

I have been holidaying in New Zealand for December. There aren’t a lot of masonry bridges here and I have seen many of them. This little bridge is the entrance to a farm at Pakaraka. I saw it out of the corner of one eye driving past a couple of days ago and went round that way on 2nd Jan for a closer look.

There is a pdf here.

And a full index here.

This was only about an hour before sundown so very low and very level light. In a country where stone building is hardly a thing this is beautifully built from selected stone. The builder had a good eye. I wonder how old it is.

And sure enough, it is just a very elegantly disguised cattle grid.

Well, that is 2018 done with. Finally up to date and 8 years complete. Hope I can do better in 2019 but in the meantime, best wishes to you all. Bill
